Cycle speedway racing is a fast and furious cycling sport which can provide exciting racing around a pacey oval race-track (normally around 80-90 metres in size and with a shale based track surface).
The bikes are unique to the sport and have a single gear with no brakes (i.e. similar to the motorized speedway bikes) along with special tyres to enable sufficient grip when cornering – just take a look at some of the photos on our web site.
Cycle speedway racing can provide an exhilarating experience for riders with the opportunity to develop great bikes skills and technique. However, regulations are in place to ensure that racing is controlled to provide appropriate safeguards for all competitors.
The Exeter Aces will provide suitable race bikes for new starters at come and try sessions, whilst club racing (including coaching sessions) is staged at the track every Tuesday and Thursday evening from 7pm between March and October.
Midweek club nights provide a great environment for young riders to compete and creates a friendly atmosphere for parents to watch and socialise, as we have a trackside clubroom with refreshments available.
We also welcome older riders (our riding members range from 7 years to 60+ years of age) as the sport provides competition for a range of age and gender categories.
For those who have ambitions to move beyond the club night participation, the club will support riders who wish to compete in regional and national competitions and provide them with travel (with or without parents) to events at Poole, Newport, Swindon and beyond.
The Exeter Aces are affiliated to British Cycling (governing body) and the facility is located at Cofton Road Wheels Centre within Marsh Barton trading estate – (Post Code: EX2 8QW)
Come and try It! – cycle speedway is a great sport for young and old alike.
